US Democrats are surrounded by anger and introspection after the loss of Democratic Vice President Harris in the general election left some Democratic officials and voters stunned. Some of the essential reasons for Harris' loss have left some Democrats questioning the future of the party. Among the sharpest criticisms have been accusations that the party lied to its supporters about President Biden's mental health until a disastrous televised debate with Trump in June rang alarm bells that ultimately led to his withdrawal from the presidential race. One Democratic donor asked: "Why did Biden hold out for so long? He shouldn't have hidden his (health) and should have quit sooner".
