On January 14 local time, US President-elect Donald Trump asked the federal appeals court to reconsider his defamation case against writer Carroll, seeking to overturn the jury's previous verdict. Previously, the jury found that Trump was guilty of defaming writer Carroll after sexually assaulting her in the mid-1990s, and ordered Trump to pay Carroll $5 million in damages. Trump's lawyers have asked the full bench of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals to hear the case, saying that the court erred in accepting relevant evidence during the trial process, which may adversely affect future cases. If this request is not granted, Trump may further seek the Supreme Court's hearing.
