ZachXBT: UK cybercrime penalties are low, law enforcement resources are scarce
According to Mario Nawfal, there has been a surge in social media hacking in the UK, with cases rising from 22,530 in 2023 to 35,434 in 2024. Hackers typically impersonate users and trick their friends into providing security codes by taking over social media or email accounts.
On-chain detective ZachXBT said that the UK's punishment for cybercrime is low, and even if fraud is reported, perpetrators are often not punished substantially. In addition, law enforcement agencies also face a shortage of resources when dealing with such cases.
