South Korean court sentences three cryptocurrency scammers to jail for $416,000
According to Cryptopolitan, the Busan District Court in South Korea has sentenced three cryptocurrency investment scammers to prison for violating the Aggravated Penalties for Specific Economic Crimes Act. The main culprit was sentenced to four and a half years in prison, and the two accomplices were sentenced to three and a half years and two and a half years, respectively.
The trio conducted an illegal cryptocurrency investment activity in a building in Busan in June 2019, claiming to have an algorithm capable of trading from about 1,000 high-quality cryptocurrencies around the world, and promising investors a 30% monthly return on their investment. In fact, they did not have any trading algorithms, and the funds raised were about 610 million Korean won (about $416,000) for personal consumption.
